The short version
- There is no account and no sign-up. We never ask for your name, email address or date of birth.
- Playing on one phone sends us nothing at all. Everything stays on the device.
- Party mode is the one part that uses a server, because every phone has to see the same game. It handles the name you type, your answers and the scores — and it deletes the whole room twelve hours after the last person touches it.
- No advertising, no analytics, no tracking, no profiling, and nothing is ever sold or shared.
- Purchases go through Apple or Google. We never see your payment details.
1. Who we are
Dealt Party is made by Dealt, a small independent app maker in the United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK data protection law, Dealt is the data controller for the limited information described below. You can reach us at vexed14@hotmail.com.
This policy covers the Dealt Party app on iOS and Android, the browser version at dealt-party.vercel.app, and this website.
2. What stays on your phone
Dealt Party keeps the following on your device only. It is not sent to us, it is not backed up to any server of ours, and we cannot see it:
- The players' names you type in for a game round one phone.
- Any decks of cards you write yourself, and the cards in them.
- Which cards have already been dealt, so the same card does not come round twice too soon.
- Your settings: sound on or off, who is at the table, drinking rules, how you are playing.
- A record of which packs you have bought, so the app knows what to unlock.
On iOS and Android this is stored in the app's own private storage. In a browser it is stored in that browser's local storage for the site. Either way it never leaves the device unless you use party mode.
3. Party mode
Party mode puts everyone at the table on their own phone. That only works if a server holds the game, so this is the one feature that sends information off your device. If you never open party mode, nothing in this section applies to you.
What is sent
- The name you type when you join. You choose it, and it can be anything — a first name, a nickname, an emoji. We never ask for a real name and we have no way to check one.
- A random identifier and a seat token generated on your phone, so the server can tell the phones apart and keep your seat if your connection drops. Only a one-way (SHA-256) hash of the token reaches the server; the token itself stays on your phone.
- What you do in the game: the answer or vote you pick, written pub-quiz answers, buzzer presses, which team you are on, and the running scores.
- The cards being played. The host's phone uploads a batch of upcoming cards so the server can deal the same card to everyone. If the host is playing one of your own written decks, those cards are included.
- A timestamp each time your phone checks in, so the room can show who has stepped away.
Who can see it
Everyone in the room sees the players' names and the scores. Private answers stay private: a vote is never shown to anyone until the reveal, and then only as a result. A written pub-quiz answer goes to the quizmaster alone, and only so they can mark it. Rooms are found by a four-character code that the host shares; there is no directory and no way to browse rooms.
Where it is kept, and for how long
Rooms are stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Neon in London, United Kingdom, and reached through a server function hosted by Vercel in London. A room is deleted in full twelve hours after the last time anyone touched it, automatically. Nothing is archived, and we keep no copy afterwards.
Because rooms are short-lived and hold nothing but a chosen name and a game in progress, we do not use them to build any profile of you, and we have no way to link one room to another or to a person.
Please do not put personal information into a card
Cards you write yourself are up to you. If the host plays one of your own decks in party mode, its cards are sent to the server and shown to everyone in the room. Do not write anything into a card that you would not want the table, or us, to see.
4. Buying packs and Party Plus
Packs and the Party Plus subscription are sold by Apple and Google, not by us. You pay them, they hold your payment details, and we never see your card number, your billing address or your store account. The app simply asks the store which products this device has bought, so it knows what to unlock and can restore your purchases on another phone signed in to the same store account.
Apple and Google handle that data under their own privacy policies: Apple and Google.
5. Hosting and server logs
This website and the party-mode server function are hosted by Vercel Inc. Like any web host, Vercel's infrastructure automatically records technical details of requests made to it, which can include IP addresses, for security and to keep the service running. We do not use those logs to identify or track anyone, and we do not combine them with anything else. Vercel processes them as our processor under its own privacy policy. Our database provider, Neon, acts as a processor on the same basis.
This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Web fonts are loaded from Google Fonts.
6. What we do not do
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- No analytics, crash reporting or usage tracking of any kind.
- No third-party trackers or software development kits that collect data.
- No profiling and no automated decision-making.
- We never sell, rent or share your information, and there is nothing to sell.
- No email address, phone number, contacts, photos, microphone or location access is requested.
Sharing a result makes a picture on your phone and hands it to your own share sheet. Where you send it from there is between you and whichever app you pick.
7. Why we may use this information
Under UK GDPR we rely on legitimate interests for the small amount of information party mode handles: without it, phones in the same room could not be shown the same game. The information is minimal, you choose what name to give, and it is deleted automatically within twelve hours. Everything else the app does happens on your own device and involves no processing by us at all.
8. Children and age ratings
Dealt Party is not aimed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. The app is rated for older teenagers and adults because of its optional adult content, and the store listing shows that rating.
The app ships with a switch for who is at the table. Family deals clean cards only and hides every adult edition. After dark asks for confirmation that everyone present is over 18 before a single adult card is dealt, and its content has to be bought separately. Nothing in the app tells anyone to drink; drinking rules are an option an adult table can choose to turn on.
9. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to ask what information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to how it is used, and to have it given to you in a portable form. In practice there is almost never anything to give you: we hold no accounts, and party-mode rooms are gone within twelve hours.
If you want a live room deleted sooner, email us with the four-character code and we will remove it. Write to vexed14@hotmail.com and we will reply within 30 days.
If you are not happy with how we have handled it, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
10. Deleting everything
Delete the app and everything it kept on the device goes with it: players, your own decks, settings and the record of what has been dealt. In a browser, clearing site data for the app does the same. Purchases are held by Apple or Google rather than by us, so they can still be restored if you install the app again.
11. Changes to this policy
If the app starts doing something this policy does not describe, we will update the policy before that change ships, and change the date at the top. The current version always lives at this address.
12. Contact
Questions about privacy, or anything else, to vexed14@hotmail.com. We read everything and reply within a few working days.
